Gara LaMarche

Gara LaMarche is a Leader in Residence at the Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership at City College in New York, where he also teaches and co-chairs Leadership for Democracy and Social Justice, of which he is a founder. He is also Senior Adviser to The Raben Group, Board Chair of The New Press, the progressive non-profit publishing house, and Vice-Chair of The Fund for Global Human Rights. His nearly half-century career in human rights, social justice and philanthropy included stints as President of the Democracy Alliance and The Atlantic Philanthropies, founder and Director of US Programs for the Open Society Foundations, and senior positions at the American Civil Liberties Union and Human Rights Watch.
