Chief Development Officer

LeRoy General, Jr. serves as Chief Development Officer (CDO) for Freedom Reads. He is responsible for overseeing our philanthropic fundraising program, including gifts from individual donors, families, foundations, and corporations.

Prior to joining Freedom Reads in August 2024, he spent close to 24 years as a fundraiser at various prestigious institutions, highlights of which include six years at St. Paul’s School and Choate Rosemary Hall and four years at Yale University during their successful $3.8B Capital Campaign. LeRoy also spent four years at the NPR National Office in DC as Executive Director of Major, Principal, and Planned Gifts, where he revamped the fundraising programs while leveraging the engagement of the organization’s passionate listenership, committed Board of Trustees and amazing member stations. Most recently, LeRoy served as CDO at Planned Parenthood of Southern New England during COVID, ensuring that the organization continued to raise funds to support its vital mission during the crisis.
