We are so excited to welcome this year's incredible cohort of interns to the Freedom Reads family. Each of them brings a unique perspective, a passion for storytelling, and a deep commitment to the communities they come from and the ones they're building. Get to know them below!
Isabel Nuño
Isabel Nuño is joining us as a Tsai City Social Innovation Intern this summer, and we couldn't be more thrilled to have her.
A rising senior at Yale University, Isabel is double-majoring in Global Affairs and Anthropology, with a certificate in Portuguese — a combination that perfectly reflects her curiosity about the world and the people in it. She is drawn to the ways human beings create meaning, forge identities, and find connection through shared stories and lived experience.
At Yale, Isabel has been a genuine community builder. She has served as both a Peer Liaison and Co-Head Peer Liaison with La Casa Cultural Center, welcoming first-year students and helping cultivate a sense of belonging on campus. As a first-generation Mexican-American student, she brings both personal investment and real insight to her commitment to expanding educational access and amplifying diverse voices.
This summer, Isabel is excited to dig into the heart of Freedom Reads' mission — exploring how storytelling can spark connection, invite reflection, and empower people to engage with their own stories and the stories of others.
Quinton Maddox
Quinton discovered his passion for social innovation and community building early — and he hasn't slowed down since.
Raised in Madison, Wisconsin, he spent his high school years immersed in nonprofit work across a remarkable range of organizations, from children's museums and community centers to financial mentorship programs and TED. That breadth speaks to both his curiosity and his commitment to showing up wherever there is meaningful work to be done.
At Yale, he carries that same dedication into everything he pursues. He is a member of a student consulting group, volunteers with a legal aid organization, mentors first-year students in his dorm, and competes in Tae Kwon Do. As a Global Affairs major specializing in Southeast Asia and economic development, he is developing a sharp, globally informed lens on the systemic challenges he hopes to help solve.
Outside of academics, Quinton finds inspiration in poetry, music, and exploring new cuisines — pursuits that reflect the same openness and creativity he brings to his work. With a long-term vision of driving impact at large-scale nonprofits, he is exactly the kind of thoughtful, energetic changemaker Freedom Reads is proud to welcome this summer.
Precious Okwueze
Precious Okwueze is a rising sophomore at Princeton University with a deep love of writing, reading, and community. She was drawn to Freedom Reads by its mission of expanding access to literature in places where books aren't always readily available — a cause that aligns closely with her own values and interests.
This summer, Precious will be putting her talents to work on the Communications and Social Media team, helping to share the story of Freedom Reads' impact with the world. We're thrilled to have her voice as part of the team.
